Poem of the Month - July 2000

HERO

Today I am a hero
She tells me so everyday
A single mom with nine children
I didn't know what to say

We found some common threads
that hemmed into our lifeline
Mom Pops and kids
becoming the family sublime

There was once a time
when my being seemed unimportant
She somehow change all that
Try to explain it, I can't

But I know in the morning
what the day has for me to do
Teach Love, unity and kindness
and yes children, God has time for you

My job is mostly to guide by example
and not to interfere
with the things that are not my business
The prayers keep it all clear

In this circumstance it's easy to understand
that when you find your place
the work is not so difficult
and always touched by grace

We come together in Gods time
and share our special gifts
To touch each other in the heart
With a Love that always lifts

Yes today I am a hero
with superpowers granted freely
To teach us one and all
How to Love each other gently
